I love you. You are, O most noble barista, the most talented, most important, most interesting, and most extraordinary person in the universe. The coffee you supply to countless millions every day is what keeps our world going. The caffeinated bliss that you provide will fuel the world changers of tomorrow. You are a superhero.
You may not realize this, but the glorious role that you have so boldly undertaken is foundational to a healthy society. Without you, the very fabric of civilization would crumble like graham cracker bits over a Smore flavored latte.
Future medical breakthroughs, sustainable energy models, poverty-ending economic systems, and yes…even world peace…will be accomplished by unassuming idealists who come to you each morning for a simple cup o’ Joe. You know why they come. They seek what all world-changers seek: to be inspired by the contents in that recyclable cup…or that generic off white mug…or that trendy metal tumbler they bought for thirty bucks. That’s not the point. The point is that you bless the world with nothing more than a burlap sack full of beans from South America. Your ingredients are truly a magical fruit. These precious life-giving legumes are mixed to perfection underneath a heavenly cloud of foam and served with pride to a desperate soul who longs to make a positive difference in the world. Coffee is the elixir of life.
When you make that design in the foam, you are showing young revolutionaries from all walks of life that humanity itself is like that precious cup of coffee. What would otherwise be ordinary can be made extraordinary and beautiful with patience, hard work, and love. When you measure out that perfect dose of espresso, you are proclaiming that all people everywhere should take pride in their work as you do. When you clean the metal spout after each use, you give hope to every faithful coffee drinker that this world is filled with good people who care.
By serving up that perfect cup of heavenly nectar with a genuine smile, you remind each person that if they work hard, maintain a positive attitude, and keep coming to you for their morning mocha, they too can accomplish their dreams.
Henry David Thoreau once said, “Baristas are the treasured wealth of the world and the fit inheritance of generations and nations.” Well, he would have said that, if baristas were a thing back then.
Nevertheless, it is a true statement. Flowing through the veins of every young entrepreneur, socially conscious tweeter, popular blogger, and future Nobel Peace Prize winner is a constant flow of caffeine that you—the Mighty Barista—have helped to supply.
God save the barista! May the foam be ever in your favor. May your tip jars be always filled with Benjamins. And may you never doubt nor forget the positive impact of your noble calling. And please make mine with four shots, whole milk and extra whip. I am forever in your debt. Keep the extra quarter. You earned it.
Your Humble Connoisseur and Potential World-Changer,
P.S. Share this with a barista today and help make the world a better place!
